Material of the leather wallets

The leather used to make all of Luava's wallets is full grain vegetable tanned leather from Italy. Mostly it's a leather article called Pueblo by a famous Italian tannery Badalassi Carlo. It has a rich and rugged texture that absorbs light giving it a deep color and rough feel. This leather makes handmade leather wallets look characteristic and unique.

This leather gives the wallets an amazing smell as the leather is vegetable tanned without any chemicals. This makes the leather wallets sustainable and environmentally friendly. Vegetable tanning makes the leather more stiff and longer lasting.

Trivia: vegetable tanning process takes a month from start to finish as compared to chrome tanning which takes only a day - this makes chrome tanned leather much cheaper but the leather is much softer and flimsy.

Patina

As you might know every leather article forms a unique patina. Some age slowly but Pueblo ages rather quickly turning it darker, smoother and shinier.

To form patina you have to simply use the wallet. Patina itself is caused by many factors:

Touch of your skin. The oils in your hands gets on the surface the leather and starts slowly to absorb to the leather.
Pressure and rubbing. As you use the wallet it gets rubbed on your pants when you take it off from your pocket and put it back. While the wallet is in your pocket it forms pressure to it which starts (slowly) to bring out the oils in the leather to the surface. Also, the cards and cash in your wallet makes the wallet tight forming more pressure to the leather.
Sunlight. If you leave your leather wallet to the table next to a window you see that it starts to get darker over time. The same happens to your skin during summer so it works with leather as well.
